What is ADOS-2?
The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured, standardized assessment instrument that includes a number of play-based activities designed to obtain information in the areas of communication, reciprocal social interactions, and restricted and repetitive behaviors associated with a diagnosis of ASD.
How long does ADOS-2 take?
The ADOS-2 generally takes from 45 to 60 minutes to administer. During this time the examiner provides a series of opportunities for the subject to show social and communication behaviors relevant to the diagnosis of autism
Why use ADOS-2?
ADOS-2 is a standardised and objective observational assessment for Autism used for research and clinical practice for many years. Your paediatrician at NQADHAS will recommend the use of ADOS-2 for selected cases where the diagnosis of Autism is not clear based on allied heath assessments, parent interviews and school questionnaires/observations.
Where can the ADOS-2 will be carried out?
ADOS-2 is carried out under controlled conditions. At the moment it can only be administered in Townsville. Dr Yiallourides has been trained to administer ADOS-2 in Oxford by the designers of the assessment.
Is a referral required to undertake the test?
Yes, the ADOS-2 can be undertaken with a GP referral. The results of the assessment which includes a report are the ownership of the client and will be sent to them electronically.
What happens before, during and after the test?
A short discussion about the test will made before the test. The child would be asked to complete a number of tasks. The carer would be allowed to watch the assessment through a computer screen. The assessment will also be video for qualitive assurance purposes. Following the assessment the clinician will give a brief feedback to the family on the child's performance however the scoring and report will be undertaken at a later date after reviewing of the video. The individual and/or their family will be offered a feedback session and be given a full report with detailed analysis of the assessment.
Can ADOS-2 confirm diagnosis of Autism Spectrum?
No, ADOS-2 is a very useful adjunct to the assessment and management of ASD. To confirm a diagnosis of ASD, input from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is often required.
How much does ADOS-2 cost?
QbCheck cost is $627.70 with a medicare rebate of $227.70 leaving an Out of Pocket expense of $400.
